Sonics Celebrates 40th Anniversary

07/08/2009

(June 30, 2009 – Newtown, CT) Sonics & Materials, Inc., a leading manufacturer of ultrasonic equipment, recently celebrated its 40th anniversary.  On April 30, 1969, four years after being issued the patent for the discovery of the ultrasonic method for welding rigid thermoplastic parts, Robert S. Soloff founded Sonics & Materials, Incorporated, a new company specializing in the design, development and manufacturing of ultrasonic equipment.

Since that time, both the applications for ultrasonics in general and the scope of the company have grown exponentially. The world has come to rely on ultrasonics more and more in a wide variety of commercial and technological applications. In response, Sonics has forged a legacy of innovation and inspired ultrasonics over the years, accruing numerous patents for ultrasonic technology in the fields of plastics assembly and liquid processing.

In 40 years, Sonics’ staff has grown, its product lines have expanded, and its manufacturing facilities have gotten larger but Sonics’ basic business profile has remained the same - dedicated ultrasonic specialists building innovative, reliable equipment backed by responsive customer service.

Bob Soloff, founder and CEO, puts it best when he says, “It’s very gratifying that even in this difficult economy, Sonics is fiscally strong, continuing to successfully pursue growth opportunities and looking ahead to the next 40 years with confidence.”

Having always been located in Connecticut, Sonics is now headquartered in Newtown, with representatives across the world and a total of four manufacturing divisions: a complete line of plastics assembly systems, tooling and fixtures; a full line of high intensity ultrasonic liquid processors, sonicators and atomizers; a line of ultrasonic metal welding systems and accessories; and a line of ultrasonic OEM kits and components designed for systems’ integration.

In 2007, Sonics was featured on the History Channel TV show, Modern Marvels, in an episode that focused on different types of welding.

Closing his comments on the occasion, Bob Soloff remarked, “We would like to thank all of our associates, representatives and customers across the globe for making our success possible and we look forward to continuing our working relationship with you.”
